Ah, the joys of shipping during the Holidays December 12 2014, 0 Comments

Just my thoughts on shipping as of December 12. I would highly suggest you use USPS Priority shipping instead of USPS Standard Post. I want you to have your packages by Christmas! It's only a few dollars more and well worth it. Plus by shipping Priority mail your package is insured for up to $50. I've actually upgraded a few orders to Priority shipping and eaten the cost but my business partner tells me I can't keep doing that! I know but.................

FYI: I am getting most orders shipped within 24 hours. That's good news as an extra day means it will reach you in time for Christmas.

Thank you for your emails and your business. I love kokeshi dolls. They are a beautiful, unique and quality gift to give for the holidays. And you can be assured that they are sent out with love. You don't find that much anymore!

Decorating your home using an Obi December 12 2014, 0 Comments

I was out Christmas shopping this week. Wow, it's crowded out there! Lots of people. and lots of traffic. I didn't last long as I realized I have definitely become an internet shopper. It is so much easier and way more relaxing. For example, it is midnight and I just finished a little shopping online, in the quiet of my home, in front of the fireplace, in my pajamas!

Anyway, while I was out shopping I noticed a table runner for sale. It was made of cotton, not much of a pattern in it-a thin red line and only 10 inches wide and not even long enough to fit my dining room table and it was $49. What I said, that can't be right, but yep it was $49.  When I got home I got out one of my Japanese obi and laid it out on my dining room table. It's lovely, 162 inches long and 12 inches wide made of exquisite silk in a gorgeous pattern of cranes. I love cranes!  I was reminded of why I have begun to sell obi on the website. I want to share this "art" with you, my customers.  If you are familiar with a Japanese obi you know what I'm talking about when I call it art. If this is your first introduction to the obi, welcome. You are in for a treat when you purchase an obi. They are so very versatile, especially the ones I'm selling. Beautiful patterns, easy to work with colors like white, cream, silver, green, orange, red. Patterns that are not too fussy and reasonably priced. I have a few online now and will be adding more in the next few days. I just finished taking the photos. 

Tomorrow I am getting out the special obi I use for the holidays on my entry way table.  It's a soft white silk with a large crane design that weaves through the entire length of the obi. Do you notice the crane theme this year? My 9-pc Kokeshi Nativity Set will be displayed on the obi. I always get compliments not only on the Nativity Set but the obi as well. This year I can tell my friends that not only do I have the Kokeshi Nativity Sets for sale but beautiful obi as well. My friends will be happy!

Kokeshi Designs is now offering Japanese Vintage Obi December 03 2014, 0 Comments

I am now offering one of a kind, Japanese Vintage Obi at reasonable prices. An Obi is traditionally worn by Japanese women over their kimono. Because the kimono has no fasteners of any kind, the Obi is the only thing that keeps the kimono closed and in place.

The fabrics and designs of obi are beautiful.  I fell in love with them when I was living in Japan. For the website,  I have chosen obi in colors and styles that I have found easiest to use in my own home. I use my many Obi for table runners and as display for Kokeshi dolls and other decorating items. I always display on obi on my entry way table and change is to match the season.

Remember, these are vintage, and if there are any flaws or stains I will do my best to mention it in the description of each obi. As with all my products, if you are not completely satisfied, you can return it for a full refund minus the shipping. I will be adding additional information in the coming weeks on how to tie an obi for display as well as information on the different types of Obi. They are beautiful and unique.

3-pc Kokeshi Nativity Set November 27 2014, 0 Comments

I just spoke to Naomi, my business partner, who is in Tokyo, Japan. The 3-pc sets will ship on Monday and should be ready to order by next weekend. I thought they would be here by now, but there was a slight problem with shipping. Thank you for your patience. 

The 2-pc sets are out of stock and won't be available until Jan. They sold out so quickly! I will know to order more quantity next holiday season. The 2-pc set however is part of the 8-pc set and in addition to the Holy Family also includes a shepherd, sheep and 3 wiremen. It's beautiful.

I'll be in Salt Lake City at the Sandy Expo Center this coming weekend. In addition to all my beautiful kokeshi dolls, including the Kokeshi Nativity Sets, I will also be featuring Japanese Obi. The Obi or sash acts as a "belt" to keep the kimono in place at the waist. In Western design the obi is used in home design. I've used my Japanese obi as table runners, decorative bows for vases and also to display my kokeshi dolls. The colors and designs of Japanese Obi vary. I've been able to acquire some beautiful obi. You can see them in person this weekend. I'll be at Booth 247. See you there!!

Kokeshi Designs at Utah's Nihon Matsuri May 21 2014, 0 Comments

Thank you to everyone who came out in the cold / rainy weather and visited our booth this year. We love seeing old friends and making new ones. It rained almost all day, but people seemed to really enjoy this awesome annual Japanese cultural celebration. We even waited in the Ramen line to warm up. The Japanese heritage in Utah is very interesting and inspiring.
